Benefits of eLearning

Learn the benefits of eLearning, what eLearning is, and why it’s great for onboarding and new or unique projects.

What is eLearning?

eLearning is a structured course or learning experience delivered electronically. Moreover, it is a fun and interactive way to train your staff anywhere and anytime.

eLearning is perfect for inductions, refreshing staff on critical processes, or introducing them to a new concept — an easy, time-efficient, and cost-effective way to ensure consistency and productivity in the workplace. eLearning allows staff to keep updated on new techniques, content, and essential information — all in a streamlined fashion.

Benefits of eLearning:

  • Saves time
  • Cost-effective
  • Highly scalable
  • Can be personalised to each student
  • Lower environmental impact
  • Assists in improving performance and productivity
  • Information can be stored and retrieved
  • Higher retention through repeated, assessed, and self-paced learning

eLearning vs. Learning Management Systems

While eLearning refers to the learning material alone, a Learning Management System (LMS) enables information to be stored and retrieved. In addition, an LMS allows trainers to assess learning, manage progress, and monitor performance. An eLearning and LMS work in conjunction with one another.

Benefits of eLearning for Onboarding and Inductions

Recruitment and staff retention are key workplace challenges in 2022.

Organisations should understand that retaining staff begins with onboarding to tackle this challenge.

A recent survey found that nearly 90% of polled executives agreed that retaining new hires is a challenge.

Another survey by Robert Half of 1000 jobseekers revealed more information. For example, the #1 reason why 36% of newly-recruited hires quit their companies were poorly structured and inconsistent onboarding.

Therefore, this begs the question – how effective are your organisation’s onboarding processes?

Even the most successful organisations often lack the resources and time in-house to create smooth and engaging onboarding processes. As a result, most organisations use self-directed PowerPoint presentations or workbooks to deliver training programs. Unfortunately, this training method leads to poor engagement with the end-user and a lack of knowledge retention. Likewise, hard-copy evidence needs to be stored to prove employee completion. As you can imagine, this leaves room for things to get messy.

Imagine providing your staff with all the information they need at their fingertips. Imagine presenting this information in engaging and interactive ways. Through eLearning solutions, learners can easily recall data, saving support time and ensuring engagement and consistency.

Additionally, eLearning automates the storage process. Draw upon data at the click of a button. You’ll never go back to PowerPoint again.

Benefits of eLearning for Special Projects

Perhaps you are faced with legislation changes. Maybe you have won a new contract. You urgently require employees to become updated with additional information or procedures. eLearning is a great way to streamline this process. Provide all staff with the same information in a timely and recorded fashion. See below some of our eLearning programs in action.

Cultural Awareness eLearning

Have you ever considered that what we find acceptable in Australia may be offensive in other cultures? For example, an Australian Mining Services Company had to consider this when winning a contract that involved ex-pats from all over the world working in Botswana with locals. In addition, this company needed to ensure respect and cultural awareness among its employees when traveling abroad in a uniform and engaging fashion.

As a result, Future Institute developed an interactive eLearning program that educated employees to be culturally aware before deployment. This involved consultation with management, locals, and ex-pats over some time. The program was mandatory and successfully prepared ex-pats for their time working in Botswana. Participants learned common phrases and accepted social practices – and also learned what not to do when in Botswana. Furthermore, the program showed the rich culture of this beautiful country. For example, the program showcased highly-regarded local music and iconic cowbells from a local radio show.

SmartMove: Health and Safety eLearning

Heavily text-based learning modules are not the way to engage 15–25-year-olds about essential topics such as workplace health and safety. Therefore, Future Institute re-developed the WA Government’s eLearning program, SmartMove, into a tailor-made, immersive learning experience. SAMM, an animated android character, guided the program, educating and engaging participants with interactivity embedded at every point.
