Empowering Frontline Leaders at Perenti

Program: Perenti Leadership Development Program

Client: Perenti Group

Commencement: December 2018

The Perenti Leadership Development Program, formerly known as the Ausdrill Leadership Development Program, was launched in December 2018 with a clear mission:
To build strong, capable and confident frontline leaders across the organisation’s operational workforce.

Designed for Supervisors, Drillers, and Offside Drillers, this 18-month leadership journey develops the skills, behaviours and mindset needed to lead teams effectively in high-performance and high-risk environments.

To date, over 108 frontline leaders from across key Perenti business units; Ausdrill, Drill Rigs Australia, BTP, and Minanalytical, have participated in the program, strengthening leadership capacity across both the Surface Business and the Investments Group.

Customisation and Delivery Approach

At the heart of the program lies the BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, a nationally recognised qualification. But what makes this program truly powerful is the deep level of customisation.

Working in partnership with Future Institute of Australia, Perenti tailored the program to directly reflect its organisational needs, workplace culture, and operational realities.

Customisation Highlights:

  • Integration of Perenti’s Values and Behaviours into learning content
  • Use of actual workplace documents, policies and procedures
  • Assignments and projects that align with participants’ real-world responsibilities
  • Focus on real operational scenarios, not generic case studies

Program Delivery

The Perenti Leadership Development Program is delivered using a blended learning model over 18 months, designed to maximise impact while minimising disruption to operations.

Delivery Includes:

  • 12 Units of Competency, each tied to business outcomes
  • Pre-work eLearning modules that provide foundational knowledge
  • Face-to-face workshops focused on activity-based, peer-driven learning
  • Live webinars six weeks after each workshop for reflection, support and accountability
  • Workplace-based assessments focused on real projects and practical application

This model ensures that leadership development doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Instead, learning is integrated into daily work life, empowering supervisors to test and refine their new capabilities in real-time.
