Leadership Development Should Be Practical
One of the biggest frustrations organisations have with leadership training is that participants leave inspired…
…but unsure how to apply what they’ve learned.
Our approach is different.
Every workshop is designed around practical workplace application.
Participants don’t spend the day listening to theory.
Instead they:
- work through real workplace scenarios
- participate in facilitated discussions
- practise difficult conversations
- complete coaching activities
- solve leadership challenges
- develop practical workplace action plans
The result is learning that can be applied immediately, not months later.
Building Better Leaders Starts with Self-Awareness
Great leadership begins with understanding yourself before leading others.
Every participant completes a suite of self-assessment tools, including:
- What is your Default Leadership Style self-assessment
- Emotional Intelligence (EQ) self-assessment
- Communication style self-assessment
- Response to conflict self-assessment (aligned to the Thomas-Kilmann Model)
These diagnostics promote meaningful self-reflection, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of their leadership style, behaviours and impact on others, laying the foundation for sustainable behavioural change.
Seven Modules. Countless Possibilities
The Leadership Essentials Program is structured around seven key leadership capabilities that organisations can tailor to suit their needs.
Leading Self
Helping leaders understand their own behaviours, emotional intelligence, communication style and accountability.
Leading Conversations
Developing the confidence to communicate clearly, influence others and manage difficult conversations using practical frameworks.
Leading Culture
Understanding how leaders shape workplace culture, build trust and create accountability.
Leading Safety
Supporting leaders to build psychologically safe workplaces while recognising and managing psychosocial hazards.
Leading Teams
Creating high-performing teams through collaboration, conflict resolution and effective leadership.
Leading Performance
Equipping leaders to set expectations, conduct meaningful performance conversations and improve employee performance.
Leading Growth
Developing coaching capability so leaders can build confidence, capability and future talent within their teams.
Behavioural Change Doesn’t Happen in the Workshop
This is where many leadership programs fall short.
Participants return to work full of enthusiasm…
…and then quickly return to old habits.
Not because the workshop wasn’t valuable.
Because no one reinforces the learning.
At Future Institute of Australia, we believe the real leadership development begins after the workshop.
That’s why every participant’s line manager receives a comprehensive Leaders Guide.
Rather than simply asking,
“How was the training?”
Participant’s line managers can have meaningful coaching conversations using the same language, models and leadership frameworks participants have learned throughout the program.
The Leaders Guide includes:
- workshop summaries
- discussion prompts we recommend that they have with the participants
- workplace application strategies
- coaching questions
- key leadership concepts and models
When line managers and participants speak the same language, learning becomes part of everyday work – not just something that happened in a training room.
Leadership Development Should Deliver Measurable Results
Too often, organisations measure training success by:
✔ Attendance
✔ Smiling participants
✔ Positive evaluation forms
Those things are important, but they don’t tell you whether leaders have actually changed.
For organisations completing a longer leadership journey, Future Institute also offers an optional Pre-and-Post 180° Leadership Behavioural Survey, completed before and after the program to measure changes in leadership behaviours and demonstrate return on investment.
Because the real measure of success isn’t whether someone enjoyed the workshop.
It’s whether they lead differently six months later.
Leadership Development Is an Investment in Organisational Performance
Strong leadership creates a ripple effect throughout an organisation.
When leaders improve:
- communication improves
- accountability increases
- teams collaborate more effectively
- employee engagement grows
- difficult conversations happen sooner
- workplace culture strengthens
- performance improves
Leadership development shouldn’t simply teach people how to manage.
It should help organisations perform better.
