Program Overview

Develop confident and capable workplace trainers who can effectively transfer knowledge, build skills and support performance on the job.

Are your workplace trainers equipped with the skills and confidence to effectively train, coach and support others?

Being technically skilled at a job does not automatically make someone an effective trainer. Workplace trainers need to know how people learn, how to break complex tasks into manageable steps, how to demonstrate skills effectively and how to confirm that learning has actually taken place.

This practical three-day program is designed for employees who are responsible for training, coaching or supporting others in the workplace. Participants develop practical techniques to create engaging, learner-centred training experiences and adapt their approach to different learning needs and levels of confidence.

The program moves from the foundations of effective workplace training through to planning and delivering structured training, demonstrating workplace skills, checking understanding, coaching performance and providing constructive feedback.

Practical activities, workplace scenarios and opportunities for reflection help participants build the confidence and capability to apply their learning directly in the workplace.

Modules - Overview

Day 1 – Foundations of Effective Workplace Training

Day 1 introduces the principles that underpin effective workplace training and explores the role and responsibilities of the workplace trainer.

Participants examine learner-centred approaches, adult learning principles and different learning styles, including how their own preferred style can influence the way they train others. They also explore practical facilitation techniques that encourage participation and knowledge sharing.

Key areas include:

  • The role and responsibilities of the workplace trainer
  • Learner-centred approaches and adult learning principles
  • Understanding and adapting to different learning styles
  • Learning theory and knowledge retention
  • Facilitation and questioning techniques
  • Creating psychological safety for learning
  • Setting clear expectations and learning outcomes
  • Applying learning in the workplace

Day 2 – Designing and Delivering Effective Workplace Training

Day 2 focuses on turning knowledge and experience into structured, practical workplace training.

Participants learn how to plan a training session, break complex skills into logical and teachable steps and distinguish between information learners need to know and information that is simply nice to know. Particular attention is given to identifying and reinforcing critical safety points when demonstrating workplace procedures.

Participants also explore practical demonstration and practice techniques that allow learners to progressively build knowledge, confidence and capability.

Key areas include:

  • Planning and structuring workplace training
  • Structuring information to improve retention
  • Breaking complex skills into teachable steps
  • Identifying critical safety points
  • Prioritising essential information
  • Demonstrating and practising workplace skills
  • Explaining the ‘why’ behind workplace procedures
  • Using workplace stories and real scenarios
  • Checking understanding throughout training
  • Building confidence in new learners

Day 3 – Coaching, Confirming Understanding and Supporting Performance

Day 3 develops the skills workplace trainers need to determine whether learning has been successfully transferred into workplace performance.

Participants learn practical techniques for confirming knowledge, observing hands-on performance and identifying when a learner can perform a task safely and consistently.

The day also focuses on coaching and feedback. Participants explore how to adapt their communication to different learners, provide constructive feedback, manage difficult conversations and support learners who may be struggling or resistant to learning.

Key areas include:

  • Managing different types of learners
  • Confirming understanding and identifying knowledge gaps
  • Assessing hands-on workplace capability
  • Developing effective observation skills
  • Recognising and responding to unsafe practices
  • Coaching rather than simply correcting
  • Providing timely and constructive feedback
  • Managing difficult feedback conversations
  • Supporting learners who are struggling
  • Encouraging reflection and self-assessment

Who Should Attend?

This program is suitable for employees who are responsible for training, coaching, demonstrating workplace tasks or supporting the development of others, including:

  • Workplace trainers
  • Team leaders and supervisors
  • Experienced employees responsible for training new team members
  • Subject matter experts
  • Employees moving into training or coaching responsibilities

The result is workplace trainers who are better equipped to transfer knowledge, develop capability and support safe, consistent and effective performance on the job.

“The facilitator was highly engaging and presented the information (which has the potential to be dry) in a very informative way, using lots of examples and case studies. He was very confident in what he was presenting and as a participant, I felt like my input was valued and appreciated.”
