This course is a requirement of Schedule 26 of the WHS (Mines) Regulations (WA) 2022 for statutory positions. The course requires the completion of BSBWHS513 - Lead WHS risk management, which prepares you for statutory roles in the mining industry. It covers core leadership and safety responsibilities required to manage operations safely and legally.

What are Statutory Positions?

Under WHS regulations, mine operators must appoint appropriately qualified individuals to the statutory positions listed in Schedule 26 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022. For a full list of approved WHS risk management units for statutory positions, refer to the relevant government guidelines here.

Does Schedule 26 replace Section 44?

Yes. Schedule 26 under the WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 has replaced Section 44 of the now-superseded Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994.

What regulations do these courses align with?

Our statutory supervisor courses align with the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 requirements outlined in Schedule 26 for statutory positions in mining operations.

What is the difference between mining management courses and mine management courses?

They are closely related. Mining management courses cover broader leadership in the mining sector. Mine management courses focus more on operational and compliance aspects of mine sites.

Who should take this mine manager course?

The course targets those required to fill statutory positions on a mine site, ensuring they understand their WHS duties and can effectively manage risks.

How are the courses delivered?

Training is delivered face-to-face at our Victoria Park training centre. The assessment component is submitted online after the workshop. You will begin this during the face-to-face session.

What units are covered in this course?

The course includes the nationally recognised unit BSBWHS513 - Lead WHS risk management, contextualised to focus on leading WHS risk management in complex mining settings.

Do I need mining experience to enrol?

Yes. You should already work in the mining industry or hold a leadership role. The course builds on existing knowledge and prepares you for statutory responsibilities.

What happens after I complete the training?

You will:
  1. Complete and submit the online assessment, which is marked by your course facilitator (trainer/assessor).
  2. Receive a Statement of Attainment for the completed Units of Competency.
  3. Be eligible to sit the DEMIRS legislation exam.
We recommend completing our DEMIRS Exam Preparation Course beforehand to maximise your chances of success.

Where is the course available?

We deliver this course regularly as a public course at our training centre in Victoria Park, we can also deliver onsite in Perth, regional and remote areas.
