Preparing Mentees for the Move into Leadership
Technical capability and industry knowledge are essential to a successful career in mining, but moving into leadership brings a very different set of challenges.
Emerging leaders may suddenly find themselves responsible for motivating others, delegating work, providing feedback, managing different personalities and having difficult conversations. They may also be required to lead people who were previously their peers.
The WA Mining Club Emerging Leaders Program has been developed specifically with these challenges in mind.
Rather than focusing on generic leadership theory, the program uses mining-relevant scenarios, practical examples and real workplace challenges to help participants understand how their own leadership behaviours can influence the people and teams around them.
Participants will develop practical capability in areas including:

- Situational Leadership
- Empowering Through Delegation
- Making the Shift from Mate to Leader
- Leading Difficult Conversations
- Providing Constructive Feedback

Developing technical expertise remains critical to the future of Western Australia’s mining industry. Equally important is developing people who have the self-awareness, confidence and practical capability to lead others effectively.
