Industry Update: DEMIRS is Now LGIRS – What This Means for Statutory Mining Training

8th, July 2025
2 min read

In line with broader government realignments, the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) has recently changed its name to LGIRS – the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety.

While this shift reflects an expanded government portfolio, there are no changes to the statutory training or regulatory requirements under Schedule 26 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations (WA) 2022.

Statutory Training Remains Business as Usual

Future Institute continues to deliver Schedule 26-compliant training for individuals applying for statutory appointments in the WA mining industry. Our programs remain current, relevant, and aligned with LGIRS.

This includes:

  • Statutory Mining Supervisor – 2-Day Course
  • Statutory Mining Manager – 1-Day Course
  • LGIRS (formerly DEMIRS) Exam Preparation – 1-Day Course
