As KAEFER is a truly diverse business it is passionate about ensuring that its leaders are well equipped to lead effectively in a high paced dynamic business.

Customisation

Future Institute worked closely with KAEFER to identify the key areas where these leaders needed to improve.  Once the training needs were identified the most appropriate qualification and units of competency were selected and customised accordingly.  This included working on real KAEFER projects throughout the training and using KAEFER workplace scenarios to ensure the new skills, knowledge and capabilities were applicable to the leaders roles in a practical and meaningful way.

Delivery

The KAEFER leaders completed 12 Units of Competency over an 18 month period.  These units were completely customised to the KAEFER business to ensure the program was highly relevant to the leaders roles.

Before each workshop, the KAEFER leaders completed eLearning modules via the Future Institute Learning Management System. This enabled them to access the underpinning knowledge prior to attending the workshops.

The face-to-face workshops focused on activity based learning. The activities from each workshop included real workplace scenarios and projects and utilised KAEFER policies and procedures.

Finally the leaders were required to complete a practical assessment in the workplace on the units that they had completed.  This means they have to go and do something in the workplace to prove competency. Once again the assessments were about their roles and rely on real projects or scenarios to maximise their new skills, knowledge and capability.

Progress

KAEFER have had 8 supervisors graduate and complete the BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.

Barminco's Comments

Here are some of the participants comments about what their biggest takeaways were.

“The program has given me the tools / knowledge to refine my leadership skills, I find I look at things differently since undertaking the program and I’m actively utilising the lessons learnt from going through this program while having to deal with day to day life on a project.

“My biggest takeaway was the confirmation that what we do on a daily basis is correct for the most part and that we seem to be doing what is needed in regards to being in a leadership roll, for myself and 20+ years of being a supervisor and manager, most of the things I’ve learnt over that time have come through on the job learnings and general experience, if I’d had the opportunity to undertake this Certificate IV in Leadership and Management training in the first few years, when starting out, it would have certainly fast tracked my knowledge of things that could have been done differently (as a leader).”

“Is that I am capable of being a leader and a mentor because of the training I have received and things I do differently is not neglecting the small tasks that I have to do day to day as they all quickly build up to a big task. I gained more confidence in standing up and delivering information verbally to people I may not know.”
